Create your ceramics at home and complete your pieces in our ceramic studio in Leiden

Starter Kit de Modelage – Genziana Ceramics

Creative moments often arrive when we are not in the studio.

For this reason, the Genziana Ceramics Handbuilding Starter Kit was created: a pottery starter kit designed to allow you to work with clay at home using professional tools, while still benefiting from the support of a real ceramics studio.

Inside the kit you will find everything you need to start working with clay using handbuilding techniques: carefully selected tools, high-quality materials and 2 kg of white stoneware clay, particularly suitable for hand modelling.

With 2 kg of clay you can create different kinds of objects, for example:

  • small espresso cups or mugs

  • 2–3 medium-sized pieces

  • or one larger piece worked slowly and carefully

The 2 kg of clay included in the kit are divided into two 1 kg blocks to make the working process more ergonomic and controlled. This division allows you to better manage the moisture of the clay and work progressively: one block can be used for practice and experimentation with ceramic handbuilding techniques, while the second can be reserved for creating your final piece.

When you run out of clay, you can easily purchase more directly from the studio. In addition to the white stoneware included in the starter kit, you can choose from other clays available in the atelier — white, red, grey or black clay — allowing you to continue working with ceramics at home at your own pace.

Once your objects are finished, you can bring them by appointment to my ceramics studio in Leiden for the firing service. Together we will check that the pieces are completely dry and ready for firing. When they are ready, I will take care of the final steps:

  • first bisque firing (930°C)

  • glazing with the glaze chosen in the studio

  • second high-temperature firing (1230°C)

In this way you can shape your ceramics at home at your own rhythm, while the final steps of glazing and ceramic firing are professionally completed in the studio.

Would you like to come to the studio to glaze your pieces after the first firing and give them the character they deserve?

Would you like to explore different glazing techniques — opaque, transparent, satin, dripping effects, layering — and discover which one best enhances your form?

You are welcome in the studio: book a glazing session and I will guide you step by step in choosing the glaze and the technique that best suits your piece, highlighting its form, material and expression.
