Genziana Ceramics

The studio of Genziana Ceramics offers a ceramic firing service in Leiden for those who would like to model clay at home while benefiting from the quality and safety of professional kiln firing in the studio.

For technical and safety reasons, this service is reserved exclusively for pieces made with clays purchased from the studio. Knowing the exact composition, shrinkage and firing temperatures of the clay used is essential to avoid cracks, defects or potential damage to the kiln.
For this reason, it is not possible to fire pieces made with clay from external sources.

Clay can be purchased directly at the studio, choosing from different types and colours depending on your preferences and the project you wish to create.

Among the clay bodies available in the studio you can choose from:

  • light white clay

  • red clay

  • grey clay

  • black clay

or continue working with the cream-white clay included in the Starter Kit, designed for those who would like to work at home and then bring their pieces to the studio for firing.

You model your pieces at home, at your own pace, and when they are ready you can bring them, by appointment, to my ceramic studio in Leiden for firing.

First, we will check the moisture level of the piece together. Once the piece is completely dry, the following steps will take place:

  • first firing (bisque) at 930°C

  • glazing with the studio glazes, chosen together when the pieces are delivered

  • second high-temperature firing at 1230°C

Your piece will then be ready for collection after approximately two to three weeks, depending on its size and the level of dryness when it is brought to the studio.

The service includes

• Clay body of your choice in the quantity suitable for your project (from 1 to 10 kg)
• First firing (bisque) at 930°C
• Glazing with studio glazes, chosen when the pieces are delivered
• Second firing at 1230°C

In this way, even when working from home, each object follows a controlled technical process, designed to ensure strength, durability and a high-quality aesthetic result.

This approach combines creative freedom and technical rigour, because the poetry of form always needs the science of fire.

 

Prices

Each kilogram of clay costs between €22 and €27 depending on the quantity, to be collected at the studio by appointment.

The cost of the clay includes the entire technical process of the piece: checking, double high-temperature firing and professional glazing with the studio glazes.

Firing only

• 2 kg → 45€

• 4 kg → 72€

• 8kg → 128€

• 10kg → 150€

Firing + glazes

• 2 kg → 60€

• 4 kg → 112€

• 8kg → 192€

• 10kg → 230€

Minimum service: 2 kg

For pieces larger than 35 cm, very thick or structurally complex, a specific evaluation and quotation will be required.

This is therefore not simply raw material, but a complete ceramic transformation service.

Regulations


• The service is reserved exclusively for clays purchased from the studio
• It is forbidden to add any other material to the clay bodies provided
• External clays are not accepted
• Pieces must be completely dry before firing
• The studio reserves the right to postpone firing if residual moisture is present
• Slight variations in colour or texture after firing are natural characteristics of the ceramic process
• Breakages may occur in rare cases due to internal stresses not visible beforehand, which is an inherent risk of working with clay

The studio cannot be held responsible for such incidents if pieces have been made with inadequate thickness or structure.
