Service Description

Pottery Wheel Class – Genziana Ceramics, Leiden 1 lesson – €87 €167 for two people ⏱ Duration: 2h30 Available sessions: Saturday 10 – 12:30 15 - 17:30 Sunday 10 – 12:30 15 - 17:30 This workshop is open both to beginners who wish to discover the wheel for the first time and to those who already have some experience. Participation is intentionally limited to two people, creating an intimate setting that allows for attentive and personalized guidance. After an initial demonstration, you will begin working directly at the wheel. We will explore the essential stages of wheel throwing: • preparing and understanding clay • posture and relationship with the wheel • centering and opening the clay • pulling the walls and building the form • cutting the piece off the wheel • recognizing the leather-hard stage • trimming and refining the foot • finishing the piece: handles, simple assemblies, slips and decorative experiments For participants with previous experience, the work can focus on refining technique and addressing specific questions. After the workshop: Once the studio sessions are completed, I will personally take care of the following stages: • drying • first firing at 930°C • glazing • second firing at 1230°C After about one month, your pieces will be ready. They can be collected from the studio by appointment or shipped (between €9 and €15, depending on the weight of the parcel). The studio is a space for presence, listening, and learning through making. Mistakes are part of the process: some pieces may not be kept, but they become valuable opportunities to understand the material and refine the gesture. Throughout the workshop we will also discuss practical aspects of clay, drying times, firings, and glazes: tools to help you continue exploring ceramics with greater confidence and independence. Caring for the studio: At the end of each session we dedicate some time to cleaning the wheel and tools used. Taking care of the workspace is part of the practice itself: a simple gesture that extends attention and respect toward the material, the process, and the shared studio environment. What’s included: • clay for the workshop • use of the potter’s wheel and studio tools • personalized guidance • drying, bisque firing at 930°C • glazing and high-temperature firing at 1230°C Your finished pieces will be ready after about one month. What to bring? No previous experience is required. Wear comfortable clothes that can get a little dirty.
